COOP FOR CHRIST

CFC COOPERATIVE SYSTEMIntroduction

The CFC Cooperative System (CFCCS) is an association of cooperatives, companies and other entities comprising a system based on mutual commitment and solidarity, which have banded together to meet their common goal of working for economic liberation within the context of the life and mission of CFC.

Components of the CFCCS

The CFCCS will be made up of the following:

1. The different "Co-ops for Christ" primaries in the different areas. There will be one official Coops for Christ in every province. For a proposed cooperative to carry the name, it must become part of the CFCCS and agree to the terms of such membership.
2. The different cooperatives, workers guilds, livelihood associations, etc., that the primaries help set up and support.
3. The economic entities to be established by the primaries, such as banks and insurance companies.
4. The different funds set up by CFC for its economic development work, such as the Mutual Assistance Fund (MAF) and the Tekton Development Fund (TDF).
5. Capital or share companies that may be set up to support the total work.
6. Training centers and technical school.

Benefits of such a system

For CFC, the CFCCS is intended to help it pursue work of total human liberation, focusing on the economic dimension. For the individual entities comprising it, the CFCCS is intended to achieve greater economic strength.

The latter is achieved through the following:

1. One nationwide interlinked network, with the synergy arising from this.
2. Greater negotiating power.
3. More extensive contacts.
4. One visible and accepted business image.
5. The reputation for integrity provided by CFC.

How the system is held together

The CFCCS, though made up mostly of independent cooperatives and other entities, is held together by the following:

1. The one vision, mission and culture of CFC.
2. Articles of Association which will describe the interrelationships within CFCCS.
3. Direct pastoral oversight of the system by the CFC Council.

The Articles of Association will contain the following:

1. Basic principles underlying the CFCCS.
2. The pastoral-organizational structure, i.e. how the individual entities comprising the CFCCS relate to each other and to CFCCS as a whole.
3. Management and decision-making in the CFCCS.
     - Business policies.
     - Financial policies.
     - Labor policies.
     - Remuneration policy.
     - Promotion and integration of new cooperatives and entities.
4. Rules and regulations covering operations within the CFCCS.
5. Contributions to various funds (eduation, development, social, etc.)
6. Sanctions for non-compliance.

Priorities of CFCCS

1. Aggressive expansion of the system, resulting in greater economic strength.
2. Employment generation and social security for workers and families.
3. Social development, with focus on support for GK areas.
4. Nation-building.
5. Respect for the environment.

Governance of the CFCCS

Being a part of the overall life and mission of CFC, the CFCCS will be under tghe overall pastoral authority of the CFC Council. Direct oversight will be done by its socio-economic renewal ministry, The Tekton Guild.

The CFCCS will be governed by a Board of Governors (BoG), whose members are appointed by the CFC Council. The BoG shall administer and implement the policies and guidelines of the system.

The functions of the BoG are the following:

1. Formulate policies that will develop and expand the system, with major policy directions being submitted for approval of the CFC Council.
2. Monitor the progress and development of the various cooperatives and entities involved.
3. Coordinate nationwide and regional activities of the various components.
4. Provide technical support for business and product development.
5. Manage the MAF and other funds related to the overall work.
6. Manage the establishment of training centers, technical schools and other entities that support the overall work.
7. Resolve conflicts related to policy implementation.
8. Delegate its powers to an Executive Committee to be created by the BoG whenever it cannot perform these as a full Board, and ratify the action and decisions of the Executive Committee.
